Real Madrid·History·Football history·2011-2020

The side are currently going through a purple patch, with the focus on attacking basketball. The arrival of Pablo Laso and the best domestic players have improved the level of this Real Madrid side. The principal objective however, carries on being the same as the day the club was founded: to win in Spain and in Europe
Since 2009, when Florentino Pérez’s second spell at the club started, full backing has been given to basketball. Ettore Messina, the continent’s most highly respected coach arrived, in addition to Rudy Fernández and Sergio Rodríguez from the NBA, and players with big futures like Jaycee Carroll. Serge Ibaka played for Madrid for a few months during the North American league’s lockout.

The side have continued to improve since 2011, when former player Pablo Laso was named coach. His offensive style was visible from the first game, and he won the Copa del Rey in 2012. With his playing philosophy implemented, the side got to the final of the Euroleague in 2013, and the same year they won the ACB in a fantastic manner by downing Barcelona.
